COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This will be a six-day demonstration and field study course in field nematology. Subject matter includes identification and prediction of nematode problem fields, strategies for management, field plot design, and establishment. Students will visit various California situations encompassing diverse crops. Student performance will be evaluated by a written report due one week after the course. The report will test student comprehension of a specific field nematode problem, ability to diagnose the extent of the production problem and management strategies/tactics.

PREREQUISITES:

Students must be proficient in basic methods of nematode extraction and identification.

LODGING AND MEALS:

To be paid by the student, however economical arrangements are possible.

TIME OF COURSE:

Course will be given at the Kearney Agriculture Center near Parlier, CA beginning at 8 am on one of the following Mondays: June 18, June 25, or July 9 of 2007. The course lasts until mid-day on the following Saturday. Students should plan to arrive at the Kearney Ag Center or other meeting place by 4 pm on the Sunday before the class initiates and return home by the following Saturday evening. This course will include daily trips to field sites and perhaps one overnight trip.

LIMITATIONS:

Number of students will be limited to one vehicle, including instructor. This vehicle will be driven by a student from one of the two campuses and he/she must have a qualified driving license. Class will not be given unless a minimum of five students indicates their attendance. Evenings will generally be spent in the laboratory.
